ISO 14000 is a family of standards that are intended to lead an organization in the development,
implementation, maintenance, and improve of a sound Environmental Management System (EMS). ISO 45001 is similar to the EMS standard and allows the organization to develop, implement, and maintain an effective Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) management system.
Both ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 address management systems that are subject to the legal and statutory/
regulatory requirements of the areas where the organizations are operating. Both standards require the
organization to identify and understand these requirements and build a management system that is
responsive to them. Additionally, both standards provide a framework for organizations to set their own
management system objectives and targets for improvements in each area and develop programs to achieve these goals. In each management system, compliance with legal requirements is expected and
failure to meet these requirements is an indication that the management system is not effective.
Brown & Associates offers a core curriculum for both ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 standards.
Overview - 1-day training class
Participants learn the requirements of the standard and the relevant terminology. Requirements for
management commitment and participation are addressed. Emphasis is placed on the management system requirements for policies, processes, and continual improvement.
Internal Auditing - 2-day training class
Participants learn to audit their own organization's management system using a systematic approach based on the auditing guidelines in ISO 19011. The auditing process - preparation, performance, reporting, and closure - is demonstrated through in-class exercises. This training may be customized to use the organization's own processes and documentation for in-class training.
Internal Auditor Mentoring - 1 additional training day for Internal Auditing
When an organization doesn't have experienced auditors to mentor the internal auditor trainees, an additional day may be added to the Internal Auditing training class so that auditors can apply their new skills to an actual audit of the organization while being coached by the instructor.
Employee Overview - 2-hour training class
This session brings an overview to all employees. The presentation and handout materials are provided at an appropriate reading and technical level for all employees, regardless of background.
Integrating Management Systems - 1-day training class
Participants will learn how to integrate the ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 management system into an existing ISO 9001-based management system.
